More about the Class: Rich harvest tones, crisp textures, and the warmth of the autumn table, fall offers endless inspiration for the watercolorist. Celebrate the beauty of the season by stepping into the studio to create your very own fall-themed still life. Choosing from a vibrant collection of pumpkins, ornamental gourds, Indian corn, shiny apples, or other fall themed items you will compose a personalized arrangement that captures the essence of autumn in fluid color.

Under the guidance of a master watercolorist with over forty years of professional experience, you will learn how to bring these classic fall subjects to life. Through live demonstrations and a clear, step-by-step approach, you will build confidence in layering rich color on color, applying smooth washes, using masking techniques, and rendering realistic textures, from the smooth skin of an apple to the rustic ridges of a squash. With tailored individual instruction, you will gain a deep understanding of the medium and the tools needed to achieve striking results.

We’ll dive into a variety of traditional stitches and techniques while unraveling the deep Southeastern roots of using longleaf pine as an ideal natural medium. Celebrate the changing seasons with a cozy evening in the studio crafting a functional piece of fall decor for your kitchen. In this relaxed workshop, you will sculpt and texture soft clay to shape a unique leaf-inspired spoon rest that brings warmth and charm to your countertop all season long.

No prior ceramic experience is necessary as you learn simple slab-building, slumping, and surface detailing techniques to form your piece. You will learn how to carve or stamp intricate vein details onto the clay, cut out delicate autumn contours, and curve the edges to cradle your favorite cooking utensils. Once your spoon rest is sculpted, you will select your choice of vibrant glazes from our studio palette to highlight the carved textures.

All clay, tools, glazes, and double-firing services are included. Ensure you wear comfortable clothes you don't mind getting a little clay-dusted. Following the session, our studio team will handle the drying, glazing, and firing process.

We'll guide you through the essential foundational skills, starting with the vital techniques of wedging and centering the clay, and moving quickly into throwing functional vessels of various shapes and sizes. You'll master altering forms and assembling multi-part pieces on the wheel. But we don't stop at the spin. You will fully explore the complex transformation of clay, covering everything from understanding different clay bodies and utilizing professional tools, to unlocking brilliant results with various glazing techniques and the fascinating world of glaze chemistry.
